BUCKLAND Athletic were unable to conjure up any more of their late magic away at Brislington FC on Saturday, October 25.

They have struck in the dying embers of a few games recently but it was their hosts who netted in the final knockings, through Jaden Neale, to earn a 2-1 win in the Western League.

Skipper Ben Carter notched the only goal of the game away at then leaders Clevedon Town earlier this month and last weekend, Ryan Bush scored with practically the last kick of the game, forcing a penalty shootout against Bishops Lydeard which Buckland went on to win.

Bush opened the scoring for the Bucks in this one, as he often does, only for Brislington to fire back in what the club described on Twitter as “An afternoon of missed chances” at Ironmould Lane.

This is a fourth league defeat of the campaign for Matt Cusack and co, the silver lining being that Barnstaple Town also lost, thus keeping them in fifth place.

Barum were beaten away at Clevedon and another pair of high-flyers went to battle at The Mill, Torpoint Athletic winning 2-0 against Sidmouth Town to continue their stay at the summit. Elliott Crawford and Curtis Damerell scored the Torpoint goals.

Bridgwater United, who lost at home to Newquay AFC 4-2 on Saturday, will visit the VX3 Stadium this Wednesday evening (29th) for the rearranged Les Phillips Cup clash before Buckland then travel to Bradford Town in the league, on Saturday, November 1.
