NEWTON Abbot Spurs and Teignmouth AFC both won to nil in the latest round of SW Peninsula League fixtures.
Whilst local rivals Bovey Tracey AFC were putting four past Okehampton Argyle (link), Spurs and Teignmouth were also keeping clean sheets on their way to victory.
Connor Marshall’s Spurs welcomed Ilminster Town to The Rec and secured a seventh win of the league campaign.
After a quiet first half, Chris Harvey got the ball rolling in the 50th minute and Toby Pullman then scored the second of the afternoon from the penalty spot.
Having lost their last three in all competitions (one of which was on penalties), Spurs get back on track in what has been a mightily impressive start to life under Marshall. At the time of writing, they sit third, two points behind Bridport FC and four off of Bovey.
Meanwhile, Liam Jones’ Teignmouth condemned fellow strugglers Bishops Lydeard to a ninth defeat in as many games to also give themselves a boost at the wrong end of the table.
A third Peninsula League win has them on nine points and with two teams yet to get off the mark, the Teigns can now put any relegation worries to the back of their mind for the time being and focus on working their way up the division.
Leon Aggett netted the only goal of the game in Somerset whilst Sean Ayre was named as their man of the match once more.
Looking ahead for the South Devon pair now and with no midweek football to worry about, they can recharge and go again on Saturday, October 4.
Spurs will visit sixth-placed Torrington AFC and Teignmouth are back at Coombe Valley, taking on 12th-placed Honiton Town. The latter pair are on the same points tally and have the same goal difference so another Teignmouth win would see them move up at least one spot.
