CENTARA, ridden by Jay Tidball and trained by Paul Nicholls, made all the running to record his fifth chase win of the season in Newton Abbot's feature £15,000 BDF Fresh Novices' Limited Handicap Chase, writes David Hucker.

A winning run that started at Hereford back in May was halted last month when Centara went down to Breaking Cover.

Now 8lbs better off for that 3½ length defeat, Tidball set out to take full advantage and, with Centara jumping impeccably in the lead, Breaking Cover couldn't close the gap this time. The two had dropped the third runner Synchronist down the back straight with the chasing debutant finishing tailed off.

The Le Dorney Villas Cornwall Golf Holidays Conditional Jockeys' Selling Handicap Hurdle featured three course winners including top-weight Dickens, who had an extra furlong to travel than for his win over the course at the last meeting.

Held up in the rear by Luke Scott as Gavin set a strong pace, the extra trip proved no problem as Dickens made steady progress to cruise by Model Approach, who taken what looked like a decisive lead entering the home straight, to win comfortably.

Surprisingly, there was no bid for the winner at the post-race auction, but both Model Approach and fifth-placed Sassified were claimed for £6,000.

Newbury winner John Barbour, who was withdrawn at Warwick last week because of unsuitable ground, was a well-backed favourite for the Le Dorney Villas Cornwall Walking Holidays Novices' Hurdle. He could only finish a well-beaten fourth behind Jaminska, who made all the running in the hands of Ciaran Gethings to record her third success and see off hurdles debutant At The Oche with Best Night back in third.

Touchwoodexpress set a steady pace in the longest race of the afternoon, the Remembering Percy Bishop Novices' Handicap Hurdle over three miles two and a half furlongs, but was passed by Great d'Ange with a circuit to go.

He regained the lead, however, on the home turn and went clear under conditional jockey Toby McCain-Mitchell to hold the challenge of top-weight Tropical Speed by three lengths and give trainers Nigel & Willy Twiston-Davies a winner following At The Oche's second place in the previous race.

The Twiston-Davies team were on the scoresheet again in the following Le Dorney Villas Cornwall Holiday Accommodation Handicap Chase with bottom-weight Bagheera Ginge who doubled his tally over fences when making just about all the running with Tom Bellamy to win unchallenged from Killer Kane and favourite Hold Your Fort.

On a good afternoon for punters, Height Of Fame, who ran well in a Class 2 contest here last month, became the fourth winning favourite when taking the closing Visit Our Antiques Fair 25th October Handicap Hurdle. Stinginhiststep had led until the penultimate flight where he was joined by Striking A Pose, Coconut Twist and The Height Of Fame.

With Coconut Twist being denied a clear run down the crowded inside, Gavin Sheehan brought The Height Of Fame wide of the group and showed the better speed on the run-in.
