Three teams are still unbeaten in division four of the Torbay and South Devon Table Tennis League, with NA Owls currently at the top as their victories have been bigger.
The Owls’ latest win – a 9-1 victory at Brixham over the Swifts – saw Rob and Dylan Bayliss claim maximums.
Hot on the Owls’ heels are the two Torbay Academy sides, 6 and 7.
A John Fowler maximum for Torbay Academy 7 in their 8-2 victory over Dawlish Dodgers keeps them a point ahead of their colleagues, Academy 6, as they saw off the challenge from Dawlish Drifters also 8-2, with Matt Frettsome and Neville Cregan unbeaten.
NA Kites picked up their first win of the season with a 9-1 victory over club mates, Ospreys – Lewis Short and Richard Salt on top form for the Kites.
An Andrew Davies maximum for Torres R Us helped see off NA Vultures 8-2.
n Kris Piwowar and Patrik Cincala were unbeaten as current division one leaders Torbay Academy 1 saw off their closest challengers NA Batmen 8-2.
The NA Buzzards narrowly defeated Torbay Academy 2 6-4, thanks to another Jon Cheung maximum.
The result of the week, however, was last season’s whipping boys Halwell’s victory over Brixham Pirates – Rod Sugden, Mick Atkinson and Dave Wadling were on fire as they secured all 10 points in a whitewash victory over the Pirates.
n Division two is going to be very competitive again this season.
Two Szymon Furgol maximums in a week have helped Torbay Academy 3 to the top of the table – first in a narrow 6-4 victory over NA Eagles and then, alongside a Jakub Piwowar maximum, as the Academy side defeated Battlers 7-3.
Brixham Seals sit just a point behind Academy following another unbeaten effort from Stuart Shipley as they defeated clubmates Trawlers 7-3.
NA Falcons, with both David Davies and Giles Tushingham gaining maximums in an 8-2 win over Taverners, ensure just two points separate the top three teams.
A Doug Morgan maximum helped promoted NA Hawks to a 6-4 victory over Torbay Academy 4.
In a titanic match at Marldon, Battlers came out winners 8-2 but they had to work for it as eacg of the 10 sets went to a deciding fifth game, with no sets being won three straight – Peter Nicholson with a maximum for the Battlers.
n Division three’s early pacesetters are Denbury Tykes – already the only unbeaten team in the division – and they have opened up a five-point lead over Brixham Dolphins.
Two 8-2 victories this week for the Tykes, thanks to Paul Hine and Huw Darch maximums, saw off NA Kestrels and Torbay Academy 5.
The Tykes’ colleagues from Marldon are also looking good as they defeated Hasbeens 8-2 – Chris Garner taking a maximum for the Marldon side.
Brixham Dolphins are keeping the pressure on the Tykes’ teams – their latest victory, a Geoff Beavington-led 9-1 victory over Torre Tigers.
Martin Charlesworth was unbeaten as he helped Dawlish Diamonds to a narrow 6-4 win over Torbay Academy 5.
