THE Kingsbridge Fair Week took place recently, with the annual 10k starting on the quayside before heading out to undulating village lanes in the direction of Slapton. The 90-strong field included local social and club runners, as well as visiting holidaymakers.

Roger Easterbrook took part and claimed third place after a steady start as the initial leader ground to a halt after the uphill opening mile. The conditions were helpful with a light breeze and warm temperature with support along the way from marshalls, spectators and included plenty of water stations. All participants received a large medal and sports T-shirt.

Roger was again the lone participant for the Trotters at the Cornwood 10k on Saturday, July 26.

This race attracted 228 runners, including many competitive runners from local clubs. The course included minor lanes, footpaths, fields, and plenty of hills with many a twist and turn along the way.

In warm conditions, the evening start outside the pub was well timed. The route had spectators at various points including Cornwood Cricket Club, Lutton, and was well signed and marshalled.

Roger came eighth in a time of 39:50, winning the second male vet award. Both events were well worth attending and supporting in the local running calendar.

The next 10k locally is the Teignbridge Trotters Totnes 10k & Fun Run on August 3 which is close to selling out at 625 entrants. More details are available on the Trotters’ website.

This annual event, which starts at 11am, has raised almost £30,000 for local charity Totnes Caring over recent years, a worthy cause. The BBQ, homemade cakes and refreshments are a firm favourite for runners and supporters alike.

The impressive prize list covers multiple age and veteran categories including cash for records. The event is based in Borough Park and uses Totnes Leisure Centre for registration.
