SIXTEEN Teignbridge Trotters took part in Running Forever RC’s Herepath Half Marathon in wet and breezy weather. The undulating trail 13.7 miles included fields, lanes, and woodland paths with uphill sections early on.
It was a well marshalled and signed event with excellent cakes at the finish. The 16 Trotter finishers agreed it was well worth the effort in challenging conditions for Championship points.
Prize winners included: Helen Anthony 1st FV40 and Roger Easterbrook 1st MV50.
Finishers included: Helen, Roger, Duncan Knight, Ben Elphick, Neil Rutley, Lucy Evans, Roger Hayes, Laura Holland, Kim Knight, Paul & Shaz Sharples, Derek Skinner, Kathryn Steemson, Allen & Jayden Taylor. Times not available.
Darren Petch (1.07.48) and Ruth Johnson (57.07) took part in the Acronyms Tamar 10k, a hilly road route with a few footpaths taking in the Tamar bridge twice. A great race, but the start was a disaster, waiting in relentless wind and rain for ages.
Chris Andrews visited Chicago for a warm-up 5k run followed by supporting his son Scott P.B in 3:47 in the iconic Chicago Marathon. The 5k included a very nice goodie bag, finishing in 1777th from 9574 in 26:58, his fastest time this year.
Char Lee completed her 2nd half marathon in 2 weeks, at the Eden project in a great time of 2:15:49.
Previously, Teignbridge Trotters took part in Axe Valley Runners’ ColyTen race.
Ben Elphick, men’s captain, reported: "It was a tough test, with some hard climbs, technical sections, and a few dicey downhills but a thoroughly enjoyable race all the same.
“I definitely felt a bit beaten up after that one! It was very well marshalled, and thankfully there was a little less H₂O to negotiate.
“Great to see so many Trotters (24) in Club Championship action with lots of outstanding performances and a few runners showing just how much they’ve improved this year.”

Rebecca Smallshaw reported after the Templar Ten Event, "After the recent set-up of a running club at Kingsteignton School, it was an absolute joy to be joined by many members along with other representatives and take part in the Teignbridge Trotters Templer Fun Run.
“15 of our children ran one mile around Stover School grounds and were unbelievably excited to get a real running number and a chip to calculate their time along with their participation medal for crossing the finish line!”
James Saunders took part in the Bruges Half Marathon with the weather perfect for fast times.
The first couple of kilometres was run around the cobbled streets of the picturesque city before heading out along the canal passing through the village of Damme before heading back.
He said, "I paced my race well, clocking a time of 01:27:33 to finish 305th, 1st Male Vet 60.”
Bob Small reported from the Berlin Marathon that the warm conditions proved too much whilst attempting a fast time. Ewan Walton showed far more restraint and slowed things down, making good and unhurried use of the drinks stations. Ewan said, “I was glad that I made good decisions early on and listened to my body. I enjoying the event and finished in 27c with 3:45.55.”
