One of South Devon & Torbay Table Tennis League’s long-standing members, Peter Nicholson, died after playing in a match last week.

Peter, 71 and from Kingsteignton, played a large part in the local league, as a committee member, secretary, coach, tournament organiser and player for several decades.

League chairman George Breyley said: ‘Peter will be remembered as a tough and competitive opponent and valued friend of many league members.

‘He was a genuine man with a dry wit and good sense of humour.’

He said Peter, who played for Torquay-based Battlers, would be sorely missed by all who knew him.

‘Our sincere condolences go out to his family and friends and our thoughts are with them all at this difficult time.’
