More than 1,000 people turned out to celebrate the opening of Haldon Forest Park, near Exeter, on Saturday.

Cycling clubs from across the county turned out in force and joined mountain bike riders and families on bikes to kick-start the day with a massive cycle past. Throughout the forest park there were activities for children and adults to participate in – from pond life workshops to t'ai chi to go-ride cycle skills training. Project manager Ian Lynch said: 'I'm overjoyed at the success of the day. 'it's wonderful to see so many people here enjoying themselves. This is exactly what we set out to achieve.' The development of Haldon Forest Park by the Forestry Commission into this new generation activity forest was made possible with an award of £760,000 from the Active England lottery distribution fund, managed by Sport England, and regional development manager Jonathan Calderbank, who officially opened the park. Haldon Forest Park is open during daylight hours and entry is free. Visit http://www.haldonforestpark.org.uk">www.haldonforestpark.org.uk
