TEIGNBRIDGE District Council intends to redevelop the Sherborne House car park site on Kingsteignton Road, Newton Abbot, and there is a public consultation this week.

A development of approximately 24, what Teignbridge call ‘truly’, affordable homes is proposed, a consultation for which is to take place from 4pm to 7.30pm on Thursday, June 8, at Sherborne House.

These are likely to be evenly split between one and two bed apartments, which will be constructed ‘to the highest quality and environmental standards to greatly reduce energy costs and carbon emissions and tackle predicted climate change whilst creating attractive healthy homes’.

Teignbridge District Council want to hear views from residents on the site and its initial development principles. Following the feedback, the council will prepare detailed plans and submit a planning application in late 2023; there will then be a second public event prior to submission in Autumn 2023.

The design brief was to transform an existing brownfield site and create exemplar, sustainable, residential development in a town centre setting within walking distance of local amenities and public transport; to provide high quality, lasting architecture and urban design that is sympathetic to its setting and acknowledges the wider neighbourhood context of Newton Abbot’s town centre and to ‘enable residents to make low carbon transport choices.’
