UP to 255 new homes on the edge of ­Teignmouth look like getting the go-ahead next week providing the developer agrees to fund community improvements worth £1.5 million.

Hallabaron Ltd wants to build on 32 acres of farmland off Higher Exeter Road. It will have to accept that 30 per cent of the scheme is set a side for affordable housing and a further five per cent for self-build projects.

Those figures could change, however, if viability studies later prove that the cost of developing the steeply sloping ground is higher than expected.
