ELECTRICIANS from Dawlish are back home after a 2,700 mile return journey to Poland delivering supplies to refugees from Ukraine.

The team from Red Rock Electrical took a van full of essential supplies to the Polish border used eight tanks of fuel for the trip.

Driver Lee Buckland, of LPB Utilities, said: ‘Wow, what an experience that was, I managed 39 hours behind the wheel of a van through tough roads and crazy drivers.

‘Lost count of the near misses we had.

‘Having said that we all made it back in one piece and every mile was worth it when we got to Medyka school on the border and delivered our goods. ‘Seeing and meeting the refugees all woman and kids in the school gym was a part of my life I will never forget and will stick in my mind forever.

‘These people really do need our help.’

Soft toy Dougie, a mascot during the trip, also found a new home with a young girl, aged three to four years old, currently living in a gym hall full of women and children while husbands and dads, have gone to fight.

A Red Rock spokesman said: ‘The little girl’s mother and a lot of the other women were so touched by us being there and and loved the gifts we gave.’

All those involved thanked the people and businesses of Dawlish and surrounding area who made donations.

On top of the supplies, more than £6,000 was raised with support from Shaldon Parish Council and Shaldon Conservative Club.
