NEWTON Abbot College’s playing fields were used as a landing site for the Devon Air Ambulance’s 999 response to an elderly man who was taken ill this morning.

The aircraft crew touched down on the Exeter Road playing fields just before 10am.

A spokeswoman for the Exeter-based charity said afterwards: ‘We were called to help an elderly male with a medical emergency.

‘He was taken by land ambulance to Torbay Hospital with our crew also present.’
