FIREFIGHTERS responded to a 999 shout in Ashburton on Friday afternoon after a washing machine caught alight.

Two crews, from the town and Buckfastleigh, arrived at Station Cottages to find the small blaze had already been extinguished.

A fire spokesman said the incident just before 1.30pm was accidental.
