A STONE-BUILT barn has been totally destroyed by fire.

The fire, in Marsh Lane, Chudleigh, is believed to have started accidentally on Tuesday afternoon.

Fire crews from Exeter and Bovey Tracey arrived to find the building well alight.

One fire engine from Exeter Middlemoor, one from Exeter Danes Castle along with their water bowser, and the incident support unit from Bovey Tracey all attended the scene.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue spokesman said: ‘On arrival, crews confirmed one agricultural building measuring approximately 15m by 10m, well alight. Crews quickly got to work with compressed air foam jets.

‘Western Power were requested to attend for overhead electricity cables.

‘The stone-built agricultural building used as a barn. There were no animals involved and the barn contained a small amount of hay and straw. With assistance from the farmer, the hay and straw was moved to a nearby field.’

Fire crews extinguished the fire using the foam jets, two main jets, two hose reel jets, two triple extension ladders and small tools.
