A FIRE in a bin caused 50 per cent smoke damage to a house at Berman Court, Back Road, Newton Abbot, last night (Wednesday).

Fire control received a call reporting a fire in a house at around 7pm.

A spokesperson for the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: ‘Fire engines from Newton Abbot were quickly mobilised and soon arrived on scene, upon arrival crews confirm one fire involving a plastic bin.

‘Fire crews used two sets of breathing apparatus, a hose reel jet and one safety jet to tackle the fire which was successfully extinguished. The fire caused 50 per cent smoke damage to the property.

‘The cause of this fire was accidental.’
