A CAR engine caught fire in Penhurst Road, Newton Abbot, last night (Wednesday).
At around 11.15pm Fire Control received a report of a vehicle smoking.
A spokesperson said: ‘One fire engine from our Newton Abbot fire station was mobilised immediately.
‘On arrival crews confirmed one car on the highway with a small fire coming from engine compartment.
‘Crews set to work extinguishing the fire using one hose reel jet. They also used a thermal imaging camera to ensure all hot spots were completely extinguished.
‘The cause of the fire was accidental and duty of care was left with the owner of the vehicle.
