TRADING Standards chiefs have issued a warning to Teignbridge residents against a wave of scam merchants targeting homes across Devon.

The county service says people should be particularly vigilant against con teams claiming to be from a council or other public authority.

Officers have been prompted to issue the notice of caution in response to dozens of complaints from those who have been approached by the relentless swindlers.

Callers claiming to be from local authorities - including Devon County Council - have attempted to gain the confidence of their victims with access to their personal details or money.
