A WOMAN cyclist was airlifted to hospital after suffering head injuries in collision with a car in Bovey Tracey over the weekend.

The casualty, who has not been named, was flown by helicopter to Plymouth’s Derriford Hospital after the accident on the old Newton Road.

Emergency services were called to the location just after midday on Saturday.

The road was closed for several hours while the scene was examined.

A police spokesman said: ‘We received a call from the ambulance service at around 12.45pm on February 17 to reports of a collision between a cyclist and a car.

‘The female cyclist was taken to Derriford by air ambulance to be treated for serious injuries. The driver of the Vauxhall involved was uninjured.

‘Localised closures were put in place to allow emergency services to attend.
