A 47-year-old Devon woman has admitted causing the death of a 90-year-old pensioner in a car crash on a Dartmoor country road.

Casey Thomas, of Orchard Meadow, Chagford, pleaded guilty to causing the death of Margaret Voce on the A382 at Great Tree Park, Chagford, on December 7, 2016 by careless driving. Mrs Voce died three weeks after the crash.

Exeter Crown Court heard the crash was caused by a ‘momentary lapse of concentration’ on Thomas’ part.

Prosecutor Sean Brunton said it was a ‘tragic accident’ and defence lawyer Adrian Chaplin said the crash was caused by ‘momentary inattention and carelessness’.

The crash happened on a country road between Moretonhampstead and Whiddon Down and led to ‘terrible consequences’.

Thomas was bailed and will be sentenced next week. She was given an interim driving ban.
