THERE is still time to have your say on the future of local government in Devon.
The Government is changing council structures across the country.
For Devon, this means the current ‘two tier’ system with a county council and eight district councils will end.
Seven of Devon’s councils – East Devon, Mid Devon, North Devon, South Hams, Teignbridge, Torridge, West Devon - have all worked together to create the Reimagining Devon Case for Change.
The plan has also received input from Torbay Council, especially in relation to services such as children’s and adult services.
The plan proposes three unitary authorities:
• Torbay and Southern Devon – South Hams, Teignbridge, Torbay and West Devon;
• Exeter and Northern Devon – East Devon, Exeter, Mid Devon, North Devon and Torridge;
• Plymouth – on its existing footprint
Reimagining Devon, also known as the 4-5-1, is one of five proposals submitted to Government for consideration.
Government is now consulting on the proposals for reorganisation in Devon.
Responses to the consultation will help inform the UK Government's final decision on which proposal will be carried forward.
Visit www.devonlgr.co.uk to see all the proposals and respond to the consultation.
The deadline for feedback is March 26.
