A MAN and his dog were rescued by firefighters after getting stranded at a water-filled quarry in the Teign Valley over the weekend.

Three fire crews were sent to the Trusham Quarry outside Chudleigh to save the mastiff bull terrier which had become stuck on a ledge at the quarry face early yesterday afternoon.

The rope and boat team specialists from Exmouth and Plymouth helped the local Bovey Tracey crew at the scene just after 2.30pm.

The Bovey crew arrived to find the dog’s owner had subsequently stranded himself in his efforts to swim to his stranded pet.

Just after 5pm firefighters safely recovered the man, who was then checked over by paramedics, before they set about getting his dog.

Man’s best friend was duly lowered from his elevated perch and re-united with his master at 6.30pm in an operation which took four hours.
