POLICE, paramedics and firefighters were called to a suspected property fire in Newton Abbot on Monday night.

They rushed to the scene in the Whitelake Place area near the town’s hospital after a fire alarm was triggered at a block of flats.

It transpired there was no fire.

Police said a young woman was detained under the provisions of the Mental Health Act.

The woman was taken to Torbay Hospital for an assessment.

Two pumps from the town attended the incident.

A fire spokesman confirmed there was no blaze. The false alarm was raised just before 9pm.
