A MAN who died in a road accident just outside Buckfastleigh over the weekend was aged 52 and from Totnes, police revealed this morning (Monday).
It also emerged that officers are investigating the belief that the casualty ‘sustained a serious self-inflicted neck wound prior to the collision.’
A spokesman said the man, who has not been named, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The collision between the man’s Toyota van and a Mercedes Vito van happened just after 7am on Saturday on the Buckfastleigh to Totnes road near the A38 slip road.
The Mercedes driver escaped with a minor cut to the knee.
A police spokesman said this morning: ‘Investigating officers currently believe that the deceased sustained a serious self-inflicted neck wound prior to the collision.’
He added: ‘We are not currently treating this death as suspicious and a file is to be prepared for the coroner.’
An inquest, to take formal evidence of identity, is expected to open later this week.
A full inquest will be heard at a later date.
