CAR vandals went on a wrecking spree in Newton Abbot over the weekend.

Some 15 vehicles were targeted by rampaging yobs who struck on the Buckland estate in the early hours of Sunday.

Police immediately appealed for information in a bid to track the roving offenders.

Their trail of damage and destruction took in Sandringham Road, Raleigh Road and Drake Road.

A police spokesman confirmed that the final count of vehicle victims totalled 15.

‘It is a substantial toll,’ admitted the spokesman.

Witness reports suggest that ‘several males’ were involved in the spree at about 3.35am.

Officers are anxious to hear from anyone who may know the identities of those involved - or who may have seen something of use to their inquiries.

The wave of attacks prompted local residents to demand more police patrols in the area to deter future outbreaks of what one described as ‘stupid and senseless vandalism.’

Another complained: ‘This is becoming regular. We need additional patrols until these people are caught.

‘Then they need to be made to pay for the damage.’

Anyone with information about the Buckland blitz should ring police on 101, quoting log 161 of October 23.
