FIRE crews from Buckfastleigh and Ashburton were called in when a car caught fire on the A38 today.

The teams were alerted to the vehicle on fire at Sea Prior.

When they arrived at the scene, two firefighters wearing breathing gear, tackled the blaze using a hose reel jet.

They were helped with road safety by National Highways along the busy dual carriageway.

Absorbent pads were used to prevent contaminants from the vehicle present in the run off water entering the nearby drainage system.

A spokesman for Buckfastleigh fire station said: ‘We were able to prevent the fire spreading to the rear of the van saving the owner’s work tools and personal belongings.’
