THREE fire crews tackled an oil burner blaze in Christow earlier today.

Firefighters from Bovey Tracey, Moretonhampstead and Exeter dealt with the incident at a two-storey property between Gidleys Turn and the Old Orchard.

The alarm was raised just after 8am after smoke issued from a utility room housing the offending appliance.

Four sets of breathing gear were worn by crews who used two hosereels, a safety jet and two ladders to tackle the incident.

A plumber had to be called out to drain the heating system so crews could get access to padding behind a boiler.

A thermal imaging camera was used to make sure the fire had been fully put out.
