Fire crews from Dawlish  and Teignmouth were mobilised yesterday (Saturday) lunchtime following reports of a property fire in Holcombe.

The first crew to arrive at the scene just before 1.45pm in Fordens Lane asked fire control for additional resources and two pumps from Newton Abbot and Torquay were also dispatched.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue spokesman said: ‘ On arrival at the detached , two-story property crews located the fire in the ground floor lounge involving a sofa.’

’Firefighters used four breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, one safety jet and one covering jet to extinguish the fire and one positive pressure ventilation fan, thermal imaging camera and small tools to make the property safe.’

The sofa was destroyed by the fire with eighty percent smoke and heat damage to the lounge and slight smoke damage to the rest of the property.

The cause of the fire was accidental.
