FOUR people were injured in a head-on road smash in Buckfastleigh yesterday afternoon.

A trapped casualty had to be cut from the wreckage of one of the vehicles involved in the collision in Strode Road.

Altogether two people were taken by ambulance to hospital after the accident at 12.30pm.

The other pair were treated at the scene by paramedics.

Police revealed that a medical episode suffered by one of the casualties may have been the cause of the incident.

A spokesman said one woman taken to hospital for treatment suffered a minor neck injury.

Firefighters from Buckfastleigh and Ashburton used hydraulic cutting gear to free one of the injured party with the help of an ambulance crew.
