A GAS heater was on fire in a bedroom at Newcross Park, Kingsteignton, yesterday evening (Saturday).

Fire Control received the call to help just before 7pm and fire engines from Newton Abbot quickly arrived on the scene.

A spokesperson for the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: ‘Upon arrival, crews confirmed one mid terrace property measuring 6m by 8m with a fire in the first floor bedroom involving a gas heater.

‘Crews successfully extinguished the fire using two sets of breathing apparatus, a hose reel jet and a safety jet.

‘The gas heater was slightly damaged by the fire and the first floor of the property was slightly damaged by smoke.’
