A judge has called for reports on a teenager who was caught on CCTV kicking a man during an attack in Teignmouth.
Caelid Hampton, aged 19, of Jubilee Close, Teignmouth, admitted assault causing actual bodily harm to Darren Guy on July 12, 2017.
His case was adjourned by Judge Geoffrey Mercer, QC, at Exeter Crown Court for a full probation report.
He said: ‘This was a very nasty sustained attack which on the prosecution’s case involved repeated kicks during a fight in the street in Teignmouth and was caught on CCTV.
‘He is 19 and I need to know more about him. In an offence like this, other than in exceptional circumstances, there would normally be an immediate sentence.
‘I have read a little about his vulnerability and I am concerned there needs to be more investigation. I need to see the full picture.’
Mr Lee Bremridge, defending, said Hampton is vulnerable and has issues linked to the recent separation of his parents. He said there was an element of provocation before the attack.
Miss Caroline Bolt, prosecuting, said the CCTV and an updated victim impact statement should be available.
