POLICE were called at 7am on Sunday to reports of a man in Queen Street, Newton Abbot, who appeared to have been the victim of an assault.

The man had suffered facial injuries and was taken to Torbay Hospital.

A 53-year-old man from Newton Abbot was arrested on suspicion of assault causing actual bodily harm and was released on police bail until May 21.
