A patient has been cleared of exposing himself at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital after the prosecution dropped the case.

Perry Smith had been accused of causing alarm and distress by allegedly stripping naked in the Accident and Emergency department on November 21 last year.

The case was dropped after a review by the Crown Prosecution Service.

Smith, aged 24, formerly of Lamb Park, Drewsteignton, and now of Foxholes Road, Exmouth, admitted an unconnected charge of having a knife in Bury Meadow Park, Exeter, on June 22, 2017.

This offence relates to a knife which he said he had for whittling wood.

Smith is also facing allegations of violent disorder in Newport Crown Court in Wales and Judge David Evans transferred his case from Exeter to that court for sentence.

He remanded him in custody to appear at Newport Crown Court on July 23. He warned him that he may face a mandatory minimum sentence under strict knife laws.

His sentence will follow the resolution of the other charge in Wales.
