A YOUNG man seriously hurt in a road crash south of Buckfastleigh on Boxing Day has died from his injuries in hospital.

He was driving a Renault Clio on the Exeter-bound carriageway of the A38 in stormy conditions when the accident happened at 5.20pm. No other vehicles were involved.

The collision scene was cordoned off for nearly seven hours while a detailed forensic examination was carried out.

Police revealed yesterday that the man, from Plymouth, had died earlier in the day at the city’s Derriford Hospital.

Officers have now repeated their appeal for witnesses to come forward. They should contact police via [email protected] or by calling 101, quoting log 524 26/12/17.

HM Coroner has been informed with an inquest due to open soon to take formal evidence of identity.
