FIRE crews rescued a man stuck in the mud at Starcross yesterday afternoon (Saturday).

Fire Control received reports of a male stuck in the mud near to the estuary at Starcross in Dawlish.

Specialist Rescue Crews from Exmouth were quickly mobilised, along with two fire engines which came from Dawlish and Exeter.

A fire control spokesperson said: ‘On arrival, fire crews were able to confirm one casualty stuck in the mud and got to work using two water safety rescue packs and equipment and a triple extension ladder. 

‘The casualty was able to be successfully rescued from the mud, in total the crews used seven personnel in flood suits and water rescue equipment, one triple extension ladder and one rescue sled.

‘Once rescued, the casualty was left in the hands of the Ambulance service who were on scene.’
