TREASURED military medals from conflicts in Europe and the Middle East have been snatched from a property in Newton Abbot.

Eight much-prized campaign medals were stolen when thieves broke in through a small upstairs window at an address on the Buckland estate.

They struck in Queensway between 5am and 6.30am on September 20 whey they helped themselves to gold, silver and bronze gongs picked up for service in Yugoslavia, Kosovo, Northern Ireland, the second Gulf War and Afghanistan.

Police say the medals were of ‘huge personal value’ to the female home owner.

Other items taken included cash, Euros, jewellery, watches, an Acer Notebook and a Fuji digital camera.

Det Con Martin Battershill said: ‘This is a terrible loss for the victim as these campaign medals are of significant personal value from her service within the Armed Forces.’

He added; ‘We would urge anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the area at the time of the burglary to come forward and contact police.

‘I am keen to hear from anyone who may have been offered these medals for sale or seen someone with them in their possession.’
