A MOTORIST suffered chest injuries after his car collided with a lamppost at the back of Newton Abbot’s Asda store.

The accident happened at the start of the Tuesday evening rush-hour at the Asda car park traffic lights in Wolborough Way.

Police and paramedics attended the incident where the driver received treatment for chest injuries. He was taken to hospital for a check-up.

Police later confirmed that no other vehicles were involved in the accident which happened at 4pm.

A spokeswoman said the driver’s injuries were not thought to be serious.

Power supplies at the scene were not affected by the collision.

Workers were expected to fix the taped-off damaged post which was left bent at its base, although still working.
