There are longe delays head in and out of Devon this morning due to a major incident on the M5
The motorway is currently closed in both directions this morning ( October 1) after a car transporter loaded with electric vehicles caught fire.
Eyewitnesses report seeing huge explosions and fireballs and plumes of dense smoke at the scene.
National Highways has confirmed that the motorway is shut between junction 28 at Cullompton and junction 29 for Exeter and Honiton, near Exeter Airport.
The agency said: "The M5 in Devon is closed in both directions between junction 28 and 29 due to an HGV fire.
"A car transporter carrying electric vehicles has caught fire, Devon & Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service are at scene and the road has been closed while they tackle the fire.
Police are advising drivers to avoid the area and although diversions are in place traffic on all surrounding roads is heavy.
