THE northbound carriageway of the M5 has been reopened following a fatal collision earlier this morning (Februay 1)

The motorway was closed from junction 29 in the early hours of this morning after a heavy goods vehicle struck a pedestrian.

According to Devon and Cornwall Police they, along with other emergency services, responded to reports of a collision between a heavy goods vehicle and a male pedestrian between junctions 29 and 28 at just after 4am.

Sadly the man was pronounced deceased at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.

Traffic queues built up along the M5 and back onto the A38 throughout the morning as police carried out accident investigation work at the scene.

Investigation work was completed just before 11am and the motorway was opened at approximately 11.20am.
