INQUESTS have opened into deaths of Kingsteignton murder victim Peter Freeman and the suspected suicide Owen Chandler who had been sought by police after the killing.

Retired Mr Freeman, 73, of 8 Chockland Road, died in Torbay Hospital from multiple stab wounds at Torbay Hospital just after 10pm on June 9.

Mr Chandler, 42, of 33 Elsdale Road, Paignton, was known to Mr Freeman. His body was found in a vehicle at the Labrador Bay car park just over 12 hours later.

No exact circumstances of either death were given at the inquests which opened for identity purposes only in Plymouth this afternoon. Full hearings will be held at a later date.

Coroner’s officer Julie Booth told corner Ian Arrow: ‘On present evidence, Peter was stabbed at his home address and sadly later died as a result of the injuries he received.’

Histology ad toxicology tests were awaited, she added.

She said of the later ‘undetermined’ death: ‘Owen was found deceased in his car at Labrador Bay car park, Teignmouth. Further similar tests are being conducted in order to ascertain the exact cause of his death.’

She added that there were no suspicious circumstances.
