TWENTY people were evacuated after a fire scare at a Newton Abbot factory this morning.

Two fire crews from the town dealt with a smell of burning from an electrical plant room at the Centek premises in Forde Road.

The 999 shout kicked off just before 9am when fire alarms sounded at the firm which supplies field equipment to the oil industry.

An on-site electrician with help from an engineer were able to deal with the problem without help from fire crews.

A fire spokesman said there was evidence of small fire affecting a fuse box in a ground floor room.
