FIREFIGHTERS from across Devon continue to tackle the huge blaze in Newton Abbot that has engulfed the former railway repair sheds tonight (Sunday Oct 21).

Some residents have been evacuated from the area as the building continue to burn, smothering the area in acrid smoke.

A Devon and Fire Rescue Service spokesman said: “The fire has spread and now broken through the roof of the building.”

We are tackling the fire with 8 main jets, 2 aerial appliances and with the 2 water bowsers shuttling water. The high volume pump from Exeter is also on scene getting set up to supply water to the scene from an open source.”
