TWO fire crews from Newton Abbot and one from Torquay headed to Kingsteignton first thing this morning (Sunday Dec 9) following reports of an alarm sounding and smoke.

On arriving at Clifford Avenue in Kingsteignton just before 7am crews discovered a fire in the ground floor lounge of a property involving paper.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue spokesman said: “Crews used four breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, one safety jet, one thermal imaging camera and a positive pressure ventilation fan to extinguish the fire.”

One elderly male was rescued from the property and the property was slightly damaged by the smoke.
