FIREFIGHTERS from Newton Abbot dealt with a chemical scare at swimming pool in Exeter this afternoon.

Environmental protection specialists from the town were called to help a young pool worker overcome by chlorine gas.

It’s understood a machine for mixing chlorine capsules – for pool use – developed a fault and released a small cloud of gas which affected the employee.

Other members of staff had to be ‘decontaminated’ as a precaution after the drama which happened just before 1pm.
