TWO fire engines crews from Newton Abbot were called to a fire in a property in Windsor Road, Buckland this evening( Friday 29 April).
On arrival crews found a washing machine on fire in a ground floor kitchen which two fire fighters dressed in breathing apparatus extinguished the fire using a hose reel.
Luckily the house had working smoke alarms on each floor which did the job of raising the alarm.
A spokesman from Newton Abbot Firestation said: "Washing machines do catch fire even when operating full of water. It is best not to leave them washing when you leave the house and do not put them going at night when you go to bed."
Crews will return to the Buckland area tomorrow (Saturday) to carry out a ’hot strike’ around neighbouring houses, which is a leaflet drop and offering advice on the benefits of a working smoke alarm.
