A TAXI driver was rushed to hospital after falling ill at the wheel of his cab in Newton Abbot.

He had just dropped off a fare in the Linden Terrace area of the town when it is thought he suffered a fit.

His fare waiting, to be picked up in the locality, gave first aid while an ambulance was called at 2.35am on Sunday.

An ambulance spokesman confirmed that a patient was taken by paramedics to Torbay Hospital after suffering a medical emergency.
