A MAN suffered burns to his hands after tackling a frying pan blaze at his home in Newton Abbot early today.

The casualty, in his 40s, was treated at the address in Queen Street by paramedics.

A fire crew from the town was alerted at 5.20am. Firefighters arrived to find the kitchen blaze had been extinguished - but the occupant had suffered burns.

They contacted ambulance control about the injury at 5.48am.

An ambulance spokesman confirmed the man was treated at the scene, and did not need to be taken to hospital.
