A BUS passenger who died after the vehicle did an emergency stop in Kingsteignton has been named as 80-year-old John Tucker.

Mr Tucker, from Topsham, went into cardiac arrest when the double decker he was travelling on braked suddenly on the Newton Road in Kingsteignton last Friday afternoon.

The Devon Air Ambulance, which landed at the nearby racecourse, flew him to Plymouth’s Derriford Hospital where he later died.

The incident happened just after 2pm, and is now the subject of a police appeal for witnesses in the wake of the death.

Emergency services were called to the scene at 2.14pm on June 7.

Specialist officers from the Devon and Cornwall Police’s Alliance Roads Policing Team attended along with a forensic collision investigator and scene of crime officer.

A police spokesman said this week: ‘There were a number of passengers on the bus at the time of the incident who did not speak to officers at the scene.

‘We’re really keen to speak to these individuals who may have witnessed the incident as they may have information which may be vital to our investigation.’

Police want to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision, and anyone with information, to contact police on 101 quoting log 444 of June7.

The coroner has been informed. An inquest is expected to open soon to take evidence of identity.
