DELIVERY drivers working around Newton Abbot are being urged not to leave their vehicles with the engines running.

Police in the town are warning drivers, especially at such a busy time of year, that they are leaving themselves vulnerable to thieves.

The warning follows a small number of vehicle thefts in recent months.

A spokesman said: ‘We have recently noticed a small number of delivery vehicles left unattended with the engine on and keys in the ignition.

‘We fully understand that they are doing a quick drop off but it takes a criminal just seconds to steal your car when you leave it running, unattended, with the keys inside.

‘If you don’t want your car anymore, we recommend selling it. If you do want to keep your car, we recommend not doing this.’
