A YOUNG man suffered a broken nose in a suspected unprovoked attack in Newton Abbot over the weekend.

The 23-year-old victim from the town was taken by ambulance to Torbay Hospital for treatment after the incident in Market Street.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene of the ‘serious assault’ at 1.40am yesterday.

It’s understood the victim was punched in the face and fell against a wall and on to the ground where he hit his head.

A 20-year-old man from Torquay was later arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

He was later released on police bail until September 8, pending further inquiries.
