AN ALLEGED rape victim in Dawlish Warren has withdrawn her sex attack complaint, detectives revealed today.

They confirmed that no investigation is being pursued in the light of the 36-year-old’s accusation relating to an ‘incident’ on the footpath near the resort’s bird nature reserve on January 18.

It’s understood the 36-year-old has been questioned by officers about the nature of her allegation.

A spokesman said that no further action would be taken in relation to the matter.

Insp Dean Bassett said: ‘Incidents like these are extremely rare in our area and I would like to reassure the community that no one is sought in connection to this previous allegation.

‘The woman has withdrawn the allegation and we are confident that there is no risk to the public with regards to this previously alleged incident.’

He added: ‘Devon and Cornwall Police takes reports of any sexual assault extremely seriously and investigating these crimes is a Force priority.

‘There are specialist investigators in the Force who are dedicated to investigating sex crimes and victims are always supported by specially trained officers and partner agencies.’

He stressed that no victims of sexual crime should suffer in silence. They should come forward and report matters to police.

‘We will thoroughly investigate such offences, safeguard victims and bring offenders to justice,’ he promised.
